Why did I wait so long?
by Randall D on 5/19/2026 5:14:00 PM
This is the 20th vehicle I have purchased since I first started driving (yes, I like cars). I have had everything from large SUVs to sedans to other hatchbacks, and for the price, mpg ratings (for a non-hybrid) and reliability this can't be beat. Living in the city, I finally realized all I needed was something small, efficient, inexpensive and reliable, and that's what this is. Would I prefer a hybrid? Sure, but I like hatchbacks for their utility, and this having an ICE engine that still gets over 30 mpg in the city is just fine. Most hybrids cost several thousand more and pretty much negate any gas savings. I had a Mazda CX-30 prior to this, and it never broke 20 mpg in town; it was horrible on gas. If you are single or a couple with no children, this is a perfect A to B getting around vehicle; it's zippy and easy to park. The back seat is cramped, so don't expect to have anyone back there for more than quick trips. The cargo area is also smaller than other hatchbacks, but I knew that when I bought it. I chose this over a Civic Hatchback for two reasons: the Civic was more expensive and Honda forces you to buy the most-expensive trim level in order to take advantage of full remote capabilities (i.e. remote start/stop via the app). With Toyota you can buy the base trim and still access all remote features. That's why I don't care that this SE trim doesn't have heated seats or a heated steering wheel; I can simply start the car remotely from my apartment and let it warm up anyways. For around $26k for a brand-new car in 2026 that has Toyota reliability behind it with great resale value, I consider this to be a best buy. Rumor is a refresh is coming in 2027; maybe a hybrid is coming to the hatchback? It will probably be more expensive though. - 4.0
Non- integrated panel, Safety features
by aaia on 5/18/2026 8:25:02 PM
Note to anyone wanting to buy and take advantage of the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ new car deduction the XSE is made in Japan so that won’t qualify. Sized perfectly for just me and my dog. Love the safety features. This is a 2025 model where all the controls are not in a mainframe monitor. So even if it goes faulty you can still operate all basic controls (heat, windows etc) without an integrated panel. Which I prefer. The panel is strictly CarPlay for entertainment and I did not want all integration as that would be very costly to repair. Love the 2.0 engine power. Step up from my Nissan Sentra. I recommend getting side panels to protect against dents and dings. The XSE has JBL speakers. Sporty version of the reliable Corolla. - 5.0
Best Little Car, Just What I Needed
by Beaglelover01 on 5/5/2026 8:32:03 PM
I've had this car for a couple of weeks now and I just love it! I was in for a new car when my 2012 Fiat 500 was slowly falling apart and too costly to fix. I had a checklist and had looked at this car several times. I finally saw it in person and really liked it. It drives so smooth it's unbelievable. I fell in love right away and it met everything on my checklist from being a little bigger to needing the trunk space. But more importantly it's not a sedan. Parking is easy and very fun to drive. Can't wait to try out manual mode some time. Happy with the up to date equipment in the car. I get excellent gas milage forty miles per gallon! I usually find some knit picky thing I do not like about my cars, I can't find anything on this one. I highly recommend, so happy with this car, I'd love to thank Toyota for making such a great car.
