2021 Ford Bronco Interior
When it comes to Ford vs. Jeep, you can be assured that there will be nothing lacking with the Bronco model. Look for a new SYNC 4 infotainment 8-inch touchscreen system, along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, among other high-tech features such as Remote Keyless Access with Push-Button Start. Standard features include an eight-inch color LCD instrument panel, dual smart charging USB ports, 6 beverage holdings, and seating for 4-5 people. The 2021 Ford Bronco 2-Door/4-Door contains 23.6/35.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 52.3/77.6 cubic feet of total space with all seats down.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior
The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee contains 36.3 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 68.3 cubic feet when those seats are folded down. Standard interior features include a seven-inch touch screen, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Cherokee has slightly more cargo space when all seats are upright, but maximum total cargo space goes to the 2021 4-Door Bronco. The Grand Cherokee doesn't come with as many standard features as the Bronco even though the starting price is higher.
2021 Ford Bronco Exterior
Another difference between the Bronco vs. Grand Cherokee is that the Ford SUV has a removable top that comes off in sections on some body styles. You will also be able to choose BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires for trail riding adventures. There might even be a pickup model coming off the line. Nonetheless, the Bronco incorporates a beloved, boxy design with a jaw-dropping modern tweak. The 2021 2-Door/4-Door Bronco measures 173.7"/189.4" L x 75.9" W x 71.9"/73" H and comes with 10 exterior color choices.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exterior
Â
The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee dimensions measure 189-191″ L x 77″ W x 68-69″ H and you have 12 exterior color options. To compete with the trail-riding Bronco, you'll need the Trailhawk or Trackhawk. Either way, at these price points with the Bronco being all-new and having such a big following, an aged carry-over Grand Cherokee model will find it difficult to compete.
Ford Bronco Engines & Powertrain
The new Bronco is built on the same platform as the Ranger pickup and is powered by a 2.3L EcoBoost engine that cranks out 270-horsepower with 310 lb-ft. of torque. This comes equipped with a ten-speed automatic or seven-speed manual transmission. You can upgrade to the powerful 2.7L EcoBoost engine with 310-horsepower and 400 lb-ft. of torque, but this is only available with the ten-speed automatic. Every Ford Bronco comes 4WD standard. In the next few years, we could see the debut of a hybrid powertrain for the Bronco, but we suspect to see that offered on the Bronco Sport first.
Grand Cherokee Engines & Powertrain
There are four powertrain options with the new Grand Cherokee. The base model features a 295-horsepower V6, but there are also three V8s. All engines include an eight-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is rated for 19/26 mpg.
2021 Ford Bronco Towing & Off-Road Capability
The new Ford Bronco towing capability is no longer a mystery. The 2-Door/4-Door Bronco will be able tow up to 3,500 pounds and comes with 4x4 as a standard drive type. As we compare the Ford Bronco's off-road prowess, we have to discuss the new G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) drive modes, manual transmission, ground clearance, and departure angles. The Bronco's G.O.A.T. terrain management system has 5 standard drive modes (Sand, Slippery, Sport, Eco, Normal) while the Badlands trim adds 3 special drive modes (Mud/Ruts, Rock Crawl, Baja). A true off-road enthusiast will want a manual transmission, and you won't find that in the Cherokee. With available 35-inch, off-road spec tires and a manual transmission, any off-road enthusiast won't be heading over to buy a Cherokee over the new Bronco any time soon. The new Bronco cements that victory even further with a maximum ground clearance of 11.6" and a maximum departure angle of 37.2 degrees.
2020 Grand Cherokee Towing & Off-Road Capability
The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee can tow up to 7,200 pounds when properly equipped. When deciding whether to buy a Ford Bronco or Jeep Grand Cherokee, remember that the first is geared toward off-road travel. Still, you can opt for four-wheel-drive, a limited-slip differential, Quadra-Lift Air suspension and hill ascent control with the Jeep model. The Grand Cherokee is able to tow a little more than the Bronco, but is vastly un-matched when you decide to go off-road. 4WD is not standard on the Jeep Grand Cherokee nor does it offer a manual transmission. Jeep also doesn't offer much control over the the drivetrain with additional drive modes and terrain management.
2021 Ford Bronco Safety & Reliability
In our Ford and Jeep SUV comparison, safety is a main factor, but the Bronco hasn't been rated yet. However, we expect it to exceed all other models in the segment.
2020 Grand Cherokee Safety & Reliability
The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee received a five-star rating from the NHTSA. This Jeep model comes standard with a rearview camera, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and rear parking sensors.
Decision Time: Ford Bronco or Jeep Grand Cherokee?
So, which do you think is best: the 2021 Ford Bronco vs.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee? Even if you still have some questions, we can clearly choose a winner between the Bronco vs. Grand
Cherokee. The Bronco is carrying so much momentum with its comeback that it
might be impossible to stop. The Jeep model doesn't offer an open-air driving
experience and there will be several body configurations to choose from with
the new Bronco. The Bronco is also heavily focused on off-road
travel, while the Jeep Grand Cherokee lineup mostly strives to clinch the
family market instead; even though a new four-door Bronco won't have to be configured
specifically for one or the other. It perfect accommodates all needs. That's the beauty. At Phil Long Ford of Raton, contact us about the new 2021 Ford Bronco or make your reservation today.
